Banksy

Picasso once said “The urge to destroy is also a creative urge.” Famed anonymous street artist, Banksy, took that one to heart. ICYMI, moments after his 2006 painting “Girl with a Balloon” sold for $1.4 million at Sotheby’s last week, it self destructed. No one knows how the paper shredder built into the painting’s frame was activated or by whom, but the stunt was a genius move in creating buzz. We may never know who pressed the remote, whether Sotheby’s was in on it or simply how the battery lasted for 12 years, but we can take away the importance of doing something completely unexpected to gain your audience’s attention.
